We’re seeking a Data Scientist to join our PEAL department, focusing on leveraging advanced analytics and AI to drive data-informed decision-making. This role is crucial in our mission to eradicate ultra-poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Core Responsibilities
- Design and implement production-ready machine learning models
- Develop retrieval-augmented systems with robust unit testing
- Create APIs for model serving and data processing
- Perform advanced data analysis and visualization
- Handle MLOps and end-to-end model deployment
- Lead research and innovation initiatives in AI/ML
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field
- 4+ years experience in data science and ML engineering
- Expert in Python and ML libraries (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn)
- Proficient in deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Experience with:
- Generative AI and LLMs
- RAG systems and vector search
- Front-end development (React)
- MLOps tools and cloud platforms
- SQL and vector databases
- Data visualization tools
- Git and ETL processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in participatory research with last-mile communities
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Self-motivated team player
